Detox Diet: 8 Benefits to Juice Fasting

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

By Sandra Kim Leong There are many benefits to juicing, especially if you prepare them yourself: 1. If drank fresh, the juice is full of live enzymes, which is helpful the body. 2. Unlike coming out from a packet, the juice is fresh and not pasteurized. Pasteurization many have its conveniences but it has resulted in nutritionally dead foods. During pasteurization, high heat is used and this destroys the vital nutrients within the juice. 3. You consume more vegetables by drinking than by eating. As you probably have experienced, its not always possible to eat as many vegetables as you would like. Drinking fresh vegetable juice helps take care of this problem. 4. Digestion and assimilation of the vegetable nutrients is much easier. Your body is in fact, like a juicer. When you eat a celery, your body will digest the celery by extracting the juice to get the nutrition. The fiber is eliminated via the colon and bowel movements. However, if you juice, you have already extracted the juice for the body thus making it easier for your assimilation. Nevertheless, its still important to eat whole vegetables and fruits because you need some amount of fiber as well. 5. Fasting gives your digestive system a rest. Since fresh fruit and vegetable juices require little digestion, and are quickly assimilated from the upper digestive tract, most of the 10% of bodily energy normally involved in your mastication, assimilation, digestion, and elimination is freed up. The end result? You feel a sense of renewed energy after the fast. 6. A fast helps to also break down toxic materials - fat, abnormal cells and tumorsand releases diseased tissues and their cellular products into the circulation for elimination. 7. In addition, new cell growth during fasting is stimulated and accelerated as the required proteins are re-synthesized from decomposed cells (during autolysis). Your serum albumin reading - blood-protein level - remains constant and normal throughout your fast, as your body very smartly uses protein and other stored nutrients where needed. 8. Juice fasting is a much gentler process of detoxification as compared to water fasting. For a juice fast, a broad variety of fruits and vegetables should be used in combination and that is necessary to enhance health during the fast. In this manner, the body still gets its daily calories from the easily-digested juices as compared to the more extreme water fast. Thus, the release of toxins from the fat cells in a juice fast is much more gentle and gradual. Sandra Kim Leong owns the resource-rich site on detoxification and cleansing. Three Easy Ways To Prevent and Suppress Cravings on a Low Carb Diet

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

By Benji Paras If youve been on a low carb diet for any amount of time, you have undoubtedlyfelt the pangs of hunger that accompanystrong cravings. There are a number ofways in which you can deal with thesecravings and mitigate them in the future; andif you want to be successful on yourlow carb diet, you will do exactly that. In this article, I will outline three methods youcan use to suppress and prevent those cravings. The first is very simple: if you want to suppress the majority of your cravings, all you have to do is drink aneight ounce glass of water and then wait. Mostlow carb diets suggest that you drink64 ounces of water each day. One of thereasons for this is to suppress cravings forwater, which are often mistaken for foodcravings. No matter what your low carb diet is,drinking a single glass of water whenyou have cravings will prevent youfrom eating without breaking your diet. Another easy way to suppress cravingsis to fill your stomach with low caloriefoods. If your low carb diet allows it, you shouldprepare leafy, green vegetables as asnack–and eat them whenever youhave cravings. I suggest preparing lettuceand cabbage, which you can consume toyour hearts content without really addingany calories to your diet; conversely, if youconsume sweets in place of them, you couldbe eating 1-2 meals worth of calories. This will give you the feeling of being “full”because it will fill your stomach just as muchas calorie-rich foods would, but without allthe calories. The last way you can suppress your cravingsor prevent them before they happen is bygetting an adequate amount of sleep at nightor taking a nap during the day. An increasingnumber of studies have shown that peoplesnack during the day as a natural responseto low levels of energy. If youre lackingenergy because you did not sleep, you mayend up turning to snacks to boost your bloodsugar levels. In summary: you can suppress your cravingsin three simple steps–drink more water, get an adequate amount of sleep, and eat low-caloriefiller foods in place of snacks. What Does The Perfect Wedding Dress Look Like?

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

By Gillian Cooper When everyones attention is on the bride, it is important for her to look her best. Choosing the perfect wedding dress is vital in capturing the brides elegance and beauty. With all the selections available it can sometimes be hard to decide where to start in selecting that perfect wedding gown. Before one can know exactly what it is they are looking for in a wedding dress, it can be important to understand where some of the modern traditions in popular styles originated from, in order to help make an educated selection. Prior to modern times, elegant weddings were held for the prestigious and were mostly arranged marriages. Therefore, the bride and grooms were often looked upon as symbols of the wealth of the family. Because of this, it was thought important for the bride to be adorned with as much glamour and trinkets as possible. Wedding gowns came in many colors and styles and the more large and grand the size of the dress; the more beautiful it was considered. Many of the styles that the wealthy wore were imitated throughout the various ranks of the social classes, but it was hard for lower class citizens to even have a formal ceremony as income was sparse. Instead woman would wear church attire as cheap wedding dresses. As time moved on the styles began to change with the culture. But the trend of the rich setting the styles seemed to stay the same. It wasnt until the year 1840 that the white wedding dress was made popular by Queen Victoria. Up until that point dresses were commonly various colors, but the Queen looked so beautiful in her dress that it set a new trend that in a lot of cases carries over to this day and age. Today tastes are much broader, but it is still important to consider things such as cost and popularity when selecting a dress for that special day. If the budget is willing a designer dress may be the way to go, but it is also important to consider location. A designer dress wouldnt make much sense to wear outdoors at say a beach wedding. Instead a beautiful beach wedding dress would be more appropriate. These tend to be higher cut dresses with less fabric and are perfect for that Caribbean wedding. Not going to the beach, but still plan on having an outdoor or casual service? Informal wedding dresses are a perfect solution for not having to worry about dragging your expensive designer dress through the dirt or mud. Modest wedding gowns are available in all designs, colors, and sizes and are perfect for any budget. Wedding dresses are as diverse as the brides themselves. Plus size wedding gowns, custom jewelry, and select accessories are readily available. Not spending as much on a dress can leave money for an exciting honey moon and many may not think spending a lot on a designer dress is practical for a dress that will only be worn once. Others still might want a dress that can be passed down from one generation to the next so going that extra mile on a dress just might seem worth it. What ever it is you’re looking for chances are that you can find the right dress for you. Gillian Cooper is a wedding planner with many years experience of helping couples plan their big day. 5 Tips for Burning More Calories Starting Today

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

By Gregg Gillies When trying to lose fat and build some muscle so you can reshape your body, you need to find simple tricks to eliminate or burning more calories, whether it’s through your weight training and cardio program, or through your nutrition plan. Eat more vegetables. Try mixing and matching fresh vegetables for variety. Besides the numerous health benefits, most veggies are full of fiber, which will fill you up, as well as burn more calories than eating other foods. Go ahead and snack, just snack on good stuff, like raisins, nuts (especially almonds) veggies and dried fruit. It’s important to eat frequently when trying to lose fat or build muscle. Going too long between meals will burn off muscle and cause your body to store fat. This will lower your metabolism, making it even more difficult to lose fat. And then it becomes a vicious cycle. You keep cutting calories to compensate for your lowered metabolism and your body keeps slowing down your metabolism even more and storing body fat, thinking it’s protecting you from starvation. In addition, you are more likely to binge and eat a whole lot of food you shouldn’t eat. Speaking of nuts, add nuts to your yogurt and salads. Chopped nuts make a great alternative to breaded style garnishes like croutons. Specific food combinations can help to burn calories by ramping up your metabolism. Eat carbs that are rich in fiber. They take longer to digest and you will feel fuller for longer periods of time. Along with carbs rich in fiber, take in more protein. Your body burns more calories when you eat protein than it burns digesting either fats or carbohydrates. Eating more protein to burn fat was confirmed in a study published in the American Journal of Physiology. One group was fed a high protein diet (just over one gram per pound of bodyweight per day) while the second group consumed a protein diet near equal to that of the RDA. The group eating the high protein diet burned more fat than the group consuming protein near equal to the RDA. Want to burn fat or build muscle? Get lots of fiber and protein. Eating protein also helps to prevent muscle loss while dieting. You saw what loss of muscle can do to your fat loss efforts in step two. Yogurt can help you lose weight while protecting muscle. A recent study of overweight people who ate three servings of yogurt daily for 12 weeks lost 22% more weight, 61% more body fat and 81% more abdominal fat than people who ate a similar number of calories but no dairy products. Make sure to get yogurt with real fruit and no added sugar. Yogurt is also an easy and convenient snack and containg high quality protein as well. Put these 5 tips into practice and your new muscle building, fat burning machine (your body) will reward you for it. Gregg Gillies is the author of Get Fit Fast!
