Does Exercise Really Help In Fat loss?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Jed Baguio Exercise certainly helps distribute fat cells proportionately in the body but requires diligence and continued observance otherwise the initial efforts are deemed futile. It does not however guarantee fat loss on its own alone. Multiple programs aid in each other to enhance results which includes eating right at the right time tantamount to a proper diet and a healthy lifestyle to accelerate fat loss. Of the many keys to permanent fat loss, the healthy diet is balanced with protein ingestion. A potent exercise routine produces clear results when properly manipulated through dietary variables. Loosing 15 pounds through proper diet techniques will enhance 5-15 pounds of weight loss in conjunction with proper exercise variables to enhance the rate of progress. Diet alone may promote fat loss but the results do not guarantee its suitable appearance. Doctors often countered that there is probably no solution to a womans dislike of fat deposit appearance that can account for the amount of psychological deception the manufacturers of fat loss products would reveal in order to sell their product. Weight loss clinics; promote exercise and a healthy well-maintained diet however they could charge a mint for a hired coach while actually you are the one putting up the maximum effort. There is no actual necessity in paying a watcher while you are working your tail off. It is important to note that weight loss does not necessarily mean fat loss but it could be an indicator. Weight is actually composed of water, muscle, and fat. If the goal is to shed off excess fat, it should help to know that without proper medical assistance through laboratory evaluations could eliminate the necessary fluids in the body. There are many individuals who would mistake their heavy weight as excess fats but the actual body weight is composed mainly of water. Too much exercise also eliminates water in the body that later may result to dehydration. It should be productive that exercise and diet works together with proper medical evaluation to eliminate the possibility of deprivation of the water and nutrients in the body. Excessive fluid and electrolyte imbalance necessitated by drastic fat loss could actually prove fatal. Therefore it is necessary to have proper exercise with a good knowledge of your body composition and have a good diet program that cuts down on saturated fat, enjoying instead unsaturated or healthy fats in food such as nuts, avocados is healthy. By doing this you are well in your way in losing fat with out paying a great deal of a money…CONTINUE If You’re Looking For A NO B.S., NO Holds Barred and NO Hype Weight Loss Newsletter That Really Works… click here: http://www.myweightlossnewsletter.com/ Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jed_Baguio http://EzineArticles.com/?Does-Exercise-Really-Help-In-Fat-loss?&id=382844 dissolving ambien ambien by posted canine medications anxiety ativan ambien pills

A House of Prayer for All Peoples?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By David Ben-Ariel On Simchat Torah (Festival of the Rejoicing of the Law/Last Great Day) I went up to the Temple Mount with my Bible to pray. Although I do not usually wear a kippa (skull cap), I took one with me. My first challenge was to pass the guards near the Temple Mount entrance; if they saw me with my Bible they would not let me enter. I silently prayed all the way up to the site where God’s Temple stood twice, and will be rebuilt for a third and final time, that I would be able to go in. I got past the guards. You say Jewish guards prevent Christians and Jews from exercising their religious right to pray on the Temple Mount? That’s right! Only Muslims have unlimited access to Judaism’s most holy site. Only the Koran is permitted within. The Tanach (Jewish Scripture, known to much of the world as the “Old Testament”) and Christian Scriptures (the New Testament) are forbidden. Yet Israel claims to respect the religious rights of all people. Israel has no law against Christians and Jews praying or reading scriptures on the Temple Mount. However, it does have an unwritten agreement with the Wakf (Muslim religious authorities) prohibiting this. No sign is posted, stating: “Warning! Christian and Jewish prayers are forbidden! Bibles not allowed inside by Muslim religious authorities. Proceed with caution!” I do not accept that Moslems have the authority to forbid me from reading appropriate Psalms or the New Testament account of Jesus celebrating the Water Libation Ceremony (Psalms 120-134, John 7:37). My question was, where should I read those passages? I ended up between the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aksa mosque, just to the right of the place where Moslems wash their hands and feet. I was on the other side of the raised platform there, if you face the Mosque of Omar. First, I nervously sat and read. Then I put on my black kippa, stood up and started to read for a few minutes until I became distracted by fears of being attacked by the Moslem guards. I sat down, took off my kippa, and continued to read. Then one of the Wakf guards noticed me and asked what I was reading. I replied, “Yes, it’s my book.” He took it from me and saw that it was a Bible. He demanded to know if I was a Christian or a Jew. When I told him I was a Christian, he asked me why I was wearing a magen David (Star of David). I did not feel obligated to explain that it was a gift from my mother and youngest sister, and told him, “Give back my Bible.” He ordered, “You have to leave now!” Again I said, “Give back my Bible.” When he refused, I demanded its return more loudly. He raised his fist as if to hit me and warned me not to raise my voice. This attracted the attention of some passing tourists, who gathered around us. I told them, “This thief has stolen my Bible!” The Wakf guard told me to leave again and threatened to hit me. He said he would give me back my Bible outside. Since there was no reason for him to confiscate it in the first place, I told him to return it to me then and there and I would go. At this point he radioed an Israeli policeman, who came running. The Israeli handcuffed my right hand, which I raised and showed to the assembled tourists, saying, “This is Israeli democracy!” I asked the Israeli repeatedly, “What law have I broken?” knowing that I had not broken any law, yet was being treated like a common criminal. I am shocked that Jewish police in the Jewish State help maintain Moslem domination of the Temple Mount by suppressing Christian and Jewish religious rights there. Is it the Temple Mount or the Mosque Mount? An Israeli policeman led me away. I told the bewildered tourists, “This is what happens to a Christian or Jew who wants to read the Bible where the holy Temple stood. This is what happens to Christians and Jews who want to pray where our prophets and patriarchs prayed, and where Jesus and his disciples taught.” Why the exclusive religious rights for Moslems? And Israel wants to hand over control of Rachel’s Tomb, Bethlehem and Joseph’s Tomb to Moslem religious authorities?! Are they crazy or what? In the police station at the Western Wall Plaza, the officers wanted to know who else was with me. They were relieved to find that I was alone. (They should have known I was performing a mitzva [religious commandment]). The police said they arrested me for my own protection. I told them they should have arrested the Wakf guard who threatened me! Why not remove, once and for all, the threat of Moslem violence? Why reward Moslem extremists? The police laughed in disbelief when I told them I am a Christian and that my Bible includes the New Testament, which they returned to me. A Druze officer said, “But you must respect other religions.” He remained silent when I asked, “Where was their respect for mine?” I explained that our Biblical goal is to enable everyone to come and pray on the mountain where God’s Temple stood, and in the Temple when it will be rebuilt. It is prophesied to become a “House of Prayer” for all nations. The police told me I could return to the Temple Mount as a tourist - without my Bible. I said that I do not want to go up there only as a “tourist;” I want to pray there. When they asked me how many times I had been up there, I said “a thousand.” They wrote that down in their report. They said I could make a short statement for the record. I said something to this effect: “Is it too much to ask during this 3,000th anniversary of King David’s Jerusalem to peacefully read his inspired words on the Temple Mount?” When I left the police compound, one of the policemen told me I did a good thing. Once outside, I was met by some Jews who saw the incident and congratulated me. I pray that this unfortunate encounter will raise awareness of Israel’s religious discrimination against Christians and Jews. The situation must change. It will when enough people cry “Basta!” (Italian for “enough!”). May the day soon come when Christians, Jews and Moslems can say: “My House shall be called a house of prayer for all Peoples.” (Isaiah 56:7). The Bible says “Moreover, concerning the stranger, who (is) not of Your people Israel, but comes out of a far country for Your Name’s sake. For they shall hear of Your great Name, and of your mighty hand, and of Your outstretched arm, and will come and pray toward this house. Hear you in heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to You for, that all peoples of the earth may know Your Name, to fear you, as (do) Your people Israel, that they may know that Your Name is called upon this house that I have built.” (I Kings 8:41-43) “And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord to serve Him and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants - everyone who observes the Sabbath - I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon My altar, for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” (Isaiah 56:6-7) “And it shall come to pass at the end of days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established at the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and peoples shall flow to it. And many nations shall go, and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord…and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths,’ for out of Zion shall go forth the Torah, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” (Micah 4:1-2) (This article was originally published in the Jerusalem-based, Root and Branch Association newsletter, January 1996.) Crafts - Drying Flowers

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Michael Russell Drying flowers is a way to keep memories of an event or place for a long time. Whether they are flowers from a bridal bouquet, or from your garden, drying flowers is easy to do. When harvesting your flowers for drying, the best time is in the morning before the sun has had a chance to make the flowers warm. Cut a good length of stem with the flowers, as you can always remove whatever you don’t need. The method of drying that you use will depend on the type of flower and craft project you will be doing. Air drying works well with sturdier flowers such as statice, marigolds, strawflowers and decorative seed pods. The sturdier the flower head, the better they air dry. Separate the flowers into groups of 8 or 10 stems. Remove any diseased leaves that you see on the stems. Bundle a group of stems together and use a rubber band at the end of the stems to hold them together. Make sure that the rubber band is very tight. As the flowers dry, the stems will shrink and the rubber band will shrink with them. You also want to make sure the stems are long enough so that the tops of the flowers aren’t smashed together when the stems are rubber banded. Now you just need to hang the flowers upside down. You can use paper clips, string, wire hangers (unraveled) or florist wire. Connect the hanger to the rubber band and hang in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Depending on the flower it will take two weeks or so for them to be completely dry. You can also use silica gel to dry your flowers. (Silica gel is the stuff that you find in your shoe box in little packets). It removes moisture from flowers without crushing them. This works great for very delicate flowers such as hydrangea, roses, carnations and asters. You can purchase silica gel at any craft store. All you need is an airtight box (preferably plastic) and silica gel. Lay a bed of gel in the bottom of the container. Place your flowers on top of this bed and gently sprinkle the silica gel on the flowers until they are covered. Using a spoon works best for this to get the gel into the crevasses without crushing the blooms. Cover the box and wait 48 hours. That’s it! Silica gel works very fast and the flowers hold their color. The great thing about silica gel is that it can be reused. You just need to place the silica gel onto a baking sheet in your oven at 200 degrees to dry it back out again. For the most natural appearance of dried flowers, try glycerine. This is really preserving and not drying, but the results are wonderful. The foliage on the stems will stay a bright green and the flowers will be a bit sturdier. Prepare the stems by removing any bottom leaves. You may want to thread a piece of florist wire into the flower head to keep it from drooping, or tie the stem to some type of support, like a skewer. Mix together one part of liquid glycerine to 1 part of warm water for fresh flowers and one part glycerine to two parts of water for woody stems. Submerge the stem end only into this mixture. This process can take 2 to three weeks, replace any absorbed solution. Once preserved, remove and rinse the stems, then wipe off any mixture that might have seeped out of leaves. There you go - three different ways to dry your flowers. Try all three methods and mix the resulting flowers into your craft projects for a multi depth arrangement! Itchin’ For Some Nichin’

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Ken Nadreau The whole idea of Niche Marketing is exciting! The possibilities are endless, as there are literally millions of people surfing the web, the vast majorities of whom are here for two reasons . . . Namely, to learn something or to buy something! The trick, for a salesperson, is to find out what it is they’re looking for and get it into their hands. Niche marketing narrows down the whole process of supply and demand. It enables you to pinpoint the products or services that are most sought after, and concentrate on those. This is helpful because most people who come to the Internet are searching for a specific item or piece of information, and they don’t want to invest in a whole lot of time and expense having to wade through stuff they aren’t interested in or want. It gives an eBook marketer the ability to produce informational products much faster than in a more generalized market because he or she is focusing on one issue and so is not required to include all the details of how one arrives at the particular question. For example, take the idea of “niche marketing” itself. When one proceeds to write about it, it’s already a given fact that most people who want to know what it is or how it’s done do not need to know everything there is to know about Internet Marketing as a whole. The given is that, if they are curious about niche marketing, they most probably have already looked into the more generalized category and don’t need to get into it again. All one has to do then, when explaining niching, is to use references to the general category if need be. So it becomes a much simpler process of writing about the specific area of Internet Marketing called Niche Marketing. Simpler usually means faster, faster means more production and a greater ability to get product out as the demands and trends change! Niching also opens the playing field wide, because it allows a marketer to niche his or her niche down even more specifically into smaller and smaller niches. Now, under normal circumstances, this might be considered marketing suicide, because the smaller and more focused the topic, the less the odds of finding a large grouping of people wanting to know it. But for your average Nicher, it’s a gold mine! Using the same example above, one could get into smaller niches a couple of ways: Suppose you wrote a book called ” How to Niche Market” and it became a hit. Your next book could be called “How to Niche Market Using Informational Materials”, or “How to Niche Market Computers”, or anything along those lines. All you’d need to do is change some of the content of your original book, get more specific in your focus on the announced topic and you’re done! Or . . . You could approach niche-niching like some of the big name companies do! Remember One A Day vitamins? Go to the drug store and check them out now! You won’t just find the single “one time a day” vitamins that you may have taken as a child, rather you’ll find a whole array of One A Day vitamins sitting side by side on the shelf. There are One A Day vitamins for kids, for sports, for seniors, for expectant mothers, for stress, etc. And they’re not the only company doing Niche Marketing either! Take companies like Parker Brothers who produce games like Monopoly. How many “editions” of the same game have you seen? That’s Niche Marketing at it’s best! So why not “How to Niche Market ~ Newbies Edition”, or “How to Niche Market ~ Author’s Edition”? As was mentioned at the beginning of this article, the possibilities are endless! A Niche Marketer could spend years producing “edition” versions of a single eBook, pumping out one a month or even a week, and still have fresh material that would be appealing to someone. If you understand that you don’t have to sell your stuff to everyone to make a good living at marketing, but rather know how to hit your specific target groups over and over again, then you should perhaps consider strongly about getting into Niche Marketing! Matchmaking - How To Find a Partner

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Keith George A matchmaker is a person or a company or a website which facilitates introducing people for the purpose of marriage. Matchmaking is more common in societies where arranged marriages are the norm like Hindu, Muslim and Jewish societies. In the medieval era the priests in catholic societies acted as an advisor and a matchmaker. Social dances like line dance and square dance have been used in some societies like North American societies as an informal means of matchmaking. Due to changes in technology, especially communication technology the matchmaking process has changed drastically. Many dating websites, matchmaking websites and chat forums have sprung up in the recent past. Most of these websites contain profiles of people, photographs, habits, marital information, number of children, smoking and eating habits, partner preferences and other related information. The most famous of the sites, which promote dating, and matchmaking are match.com, ecrush.com, americansingles.com, cybersoulmate.com, jdate.com (for jews), blacksinglesconnection.com (for colored people), doyou2.com, thespark.com, secretadmirer.com etc. There are some Christian sites also which promote matchmaking in a religious manner like adammeeteve.com. Most of the sites charge a few dollars to give contact details of any response. Some sites have been charged with placing pictures of porn stars to increase popularity of the web site. Matchmaking is a delicate process in human relationships. Generally it happens that even if two people are attracted to each other, they do not take the first step of initiating a relationship for fear of rejection, shyness, societal pressures etc. To remove the awkwardness of unwanted responses and romantic overtures and pain of rejection a revolutionary method of dating has been recently introduced. It is called anonymous matching. In the method of anonymous matching, a person confidentially gives response to other profiles. The computer matches and reports to a pair of users who have given response to each other (two users who reciprocate interest). To give this report the website usually charges an amount. By this method of anonymous matchmaking the chances of rejection is greatly reduced. To increase the chance of two users matching, the responses are usually restricted to identical geographical location. Ecrush claims that by this system they have achieved more than 600,000 legitimate matches out of 1.6 million users. Chat forums like cybersoulmate.com and netrelate.com, myspace.com have also achieved considerable success wherein people chat online routinely and gradually a relationship develops. To increase the number of responses it is vital to post a clear and recent photograph along with a positive profile. It is observed that the chances of a response increase by 6 times if a photograph of the person is posted. A realistic expectation of partner preference also increases the number of responses. Do Christians Get Depressed?

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Sonya Triggs What does the Bible say about depression? Is it okay to be a Christian and still get depressed? And what exactly is depression, anyway? First, what exactly is depression? WebMD defines it as A clinical mood disorder associated with low mood or loss of interest and other symptoms that prevent a person from leading a normal life. Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary has an even more eye-opening definition: a psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies. And if that doesnt make it clear, I dont know what does! So, do Christians get depressed? The short answer to that is Yes. The Bible is filled with a lot of people who got depressed! The prophet Elijah experienced his own depression very shortly after experiencing a major victory with God. Elijah held a competition himself against 450 prophets of Baal! to prove the might of God. After a lot of storm and drama, God proved Himself to be the Only True God and Elijah experienced a major personal victory. The queen at the time -Jezebel - was very unhappy about this and threatened Elijahs life. Elijah became frightened and ran for his life. After coming to the end of his (physical) rope (in the wilderness), he stopped and started to feel very badly for himself. 1 Kings 19:4 says Elijah, .begged for his life, that he might die. And he said, It is enough, O LORD, take away my life. For I am no better than my fathers. (MKJV). Elijah was definitely depressed (the entire story can be read in 1 Kings 19:1-18). Even one of Israelites Great Deliverers, Joshua the Son of Nun, experienced a down time. Joshua had led the Israelites to a resounding victory against Jericho. The Israelites then went to war against Ai and experienced a bitter defeat. Joshua 7:6-7 says And Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust on their heads. And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, why have You at all brought this people over Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us? And, oh that we had been content and lived on the other side of Jordan! (MKJV). Joshua was a very unhappy man. What I find most interesting about these situations, however, is how God responded to Elijah and Joshua. God sent an angel to minister to Elijah after hed stopped in the wilderness, who provided him with food encouraged him to eat and drink. Elijah then took a 40-day journey to Mt. Horeb where God Himself spoke to him. God asked Elijah What are you doing here, Elijah? (1 Kings 19:9 MKJV) and Elijah has this pity party where he tells God how he had been zealous for Him and Elijah was now the only prophet left and how they were trying to kill him! God gave Elijah instructions to carry out and then promptly informed him, Yet I have left seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal…(1 Kings 19:18 MKJV). In other words, that Elijah had no business being depressed because he was not, in fact, the only prophet of God left. He also got the opportunity to speak to God one-on-one, as God passed by him and spoke to him in a still, small voice. God had a different response for Joshua. Joshua 7:10 says, And the LORD said to Joshua, Get up! Why do you lie on your face this way? (MKJV). God explained to Joshua that the Israelites had been defeated because they had sinned against Him. But that now, it was time to Get Up!, fix the problem and return to their warfare against the people of Ai. What is reassuring about both of these situations is not only the fact that God heard Elijahs and Joshuas cries to Him, but that He responded. He met them right where they were and gave them hope and instructions for how to carry on. He didnt leave them in the middle of their hopelessness He took control and gave them a renewed sense of purpose and direction. So, do Christians get depressed? Sure but they dont usually stay depressed. One thing is for certain Christians will encounter many situations which will challenge their optimism. Jesus himself promised us In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. (John 16:33 (MKJV). And why should we be of good cheer? Because Jesus also reminded us that I have overcome the world. In other words, there is no need for us to remain down or out (or even surprised by the frequency of our troubles), because Jesus has already solved any problems we will encounter. Yes, God does hear your cry when you are depressed, and will comfort and minister to you (as well as give you guidance), but, ultimately, our victory happened right there on Calvary when Jesus died on the cross for us. We can rest assured knowing that we will eventually come to a place where all trials and tribulations will be over, all tears will be wiped away and we will have eternal rest and peace with our Father. So thats why we must recapture our joy when we’re down and make a serious effort to remain in good spirits at all other times. So what should you do if you find yourself in the throes of depression? Paul lays it out for us in Philippians 4:4-13. First, he tells us to let God know about our worries - through prayer and supplication. To make our requests known to God with our thanks (for hearing, for responding, for whatever we can think of!). And then he promises us that peace will be ours. And to maintain that peace, he tells us to think on good things! Good things only. He says .whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report, if [there be] any praise, think on these things. (KJV - emphasis mine) This doesnt mean you have to adopt a Pollyana view of the world that nothing bad is going on or that you dont have a good reason to be down. Instead, it means that you CHOOSE to maintain a positive attitude, knowing that God has it all under control. It means that you CHOOSE to let God deal with it instead of wrestling around with it in your own mind. And, finally it means you CHOOSE to believe God instead of all the rotten things that are going on around you. Paul last of all reminds us that we can do all things because Jesus strengthens us. So, its not a matter of relying on your own strength, but on the strength of the Almighty. And He will never let you down. So, dont worry if you get depressed (occasionally) - just try your best not to stay depressed. Remember that God hears your prayers (and will respond) and that His peace will keep you through it all if you let Him. So think good thoughts, turn your cares over to Him and choose to believe in Gods word instead of the world. You will be blessed! Sonya C. Bipolar: Between a Mother and a Son

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Terry Coyier This world affords an abundance of challenges for every parent. Societys standards are ever increasing, yet the day remains a mere twenty-four hours. Juggling different schedules, activities and meals, while trying to cultivate a childs self-esteem can seem overwhelming at times. Does this sound familiar? Now, imagine adding a mood disorder to the equation. Both my son and I share the same diagnosis: bipolar disorder (manic/depression). It makes our world a bit more chaotic, but we still manage to make it through each day. More importantly, we have an extremely close relationship. At the age of twenty-seven, I experienced a mental breakdown brought on by the death of my grandfather. First I was told I had major depressive disorder. Generally, people with bipolar only seek treatment when they are depressed; therefore, they are often misdiagnosed. For many people, it takes years to get a proper diagnosis. I was lucky. Not six months later, I had a severe manic episode. This changed my diagnosis to bipolar. It made more sense to me because I had always been moody, even as a child. I began taking medication immediately. Once stabilized, I remained so for over three years. Nonetheless, in May of 2002, I ceased working. I have since been placed and remain on Social Security Disability (SSI). My son was born just after I turned thirty. It was the happiest moment of my life. He was beautiful and healthy. However, as he grew older, I noticed he couldnt concentrate on simple tasks and he was extremely fidgety most of the time. He also had trouble sleeping. These symptoms are often associated with early onset bipolar disorder. I knew that bipolar could be hereditary, so I took him to see a child psychiatrist. His behavior initially fit the criteria for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We decided to treat it with medication. In the following six months, I realized he was crying several times a day for no apparent reason. I spoke to his doctor, who agreed this wasnt typical four-year-old behavior. We added an antidepressant to combat the problem. After another six months, I started to notice that his crying had turned to frustration and fits of rage. Even with medication, he began sleeping as little as four or five hours a night; waking me up at 3:00 AM by jumping on my bed. He said completely inappropriate things at any given moment, in any situation. His behavior was unpredictable, and eventually he was suspended from daycare for hitting one of his teachers. Once again, I consulted with the doctor. We decided to add a mood stabilizer while decreasing, and eventually stopping, the ADHD medications. While my son and I have managed to cope with this disorder, our experience raised a difficult question how do I explain to my son he has a complicated condition, which requires him to take pills daily? When he first went to the doctor, I explained to him that his brain didnt always work the way it was supposed to, and the pills would help. It was a simple enough explanation that he seemed to grasp. When he misbehaved, he would tell me that his brain told him to do it. This would usually happen after he experienced a complete meltdown. His meltdowns consist of: letting out high-pitched screams, crying, trying to run away from me, throwing anything he can get his hands on, hitting anything near him, (including people), and crawling underneath things. Prior to medication, it would take hours for him to calm down; now he can regain control within approximately a half hour. One day, following one of his meltdowns, I did my best to explain to him that I understood his feelings because I was bipolar as well. He seemed shocked when I told him that Mommy didnt always have control over her emotions either. Most children think their parents dont understand what they are going through. I felt it was important for him to know I understood, and I wasnt perfect either. I clearly make mistakes on a regular basis and think its good that he sees them. I always make sure to apologize when my errors involve him. This way he wont be raised with the misguided notion that when he becomes an adult he will suddenly become perfect. Our daily challenges mirror those of most families raising a child. He wants to stay up past his bedtime, isnt happy when he doesnt get his way, is grumpy when hes tired, is careless with his toys, loses things, plays too rough sometimes, doesnt want to eat all of his vegetables, wants to watch too much television, etc. I, like most parents, have learned different ways to persuade and barter with him so that he still has fun, yet follows the rules I have in place. The one thing I am careful about is not punishing him for his meltdowns. These are beyond his control and he suffers enough just working through one. Similar to other children, his life also has many positive attributes. He plays baseball and swims. He has a charming personality, loves animals, and is a people pleaser. Hes creative, smart, and extremely affectionate. However, he is different in many ways. He can be happy one minute, running around laughing at nothing in particular and then, without provocation, angry and growling the next minute. He tries to tell adults how to do things. Sometimes, he tells me he is as smart as God. He has a problem with pressured speech, which causes him to stutter frequently. He doesnt easily adapt to new surroundings. He must be gently coaxed into attempting something hes never tried before. Once he tries it, he will usually acclimate to the situation, but often it requires a long period of adjustment. This may not sound different from many other shy children, but more often than not, he becomes frustrated and completely melts down before becoming comfortable. His life can be exceedingly rigorous and, after a meltdown, we always talk about it in depth. I try to help him understand what happened and why he needs to practice his coping skills when he becomes upset or frustrated. Just as he is different from other children, I am different from other parents. My medication does not keep me as stable as I would like; therefore, I still experience mood swings from time to time. My son must deal with these, which is asking a tremendous amount from a six-year-old. He is very understanding and seems to sense when I am depressed or manic. When Im down he will play quietly while I rest. When Im manic and not sleeping well, he tends to wake up in the middle of the night and will come ask me when Im going to bed. This serves as a gentle reminder, helping me realize that Im off-balance. Weve been lucky so far in that we have never been depressed or manic at the same time. While bipolar disorder manifests differently in each person, it also carries many similarities. I recognize that my son has special needs and he, in turn, realizes I do as well. Somehow weve managed to help each other. Our relationship is something that extends beyond the love of a parent and a child its a deep, empathetic understanding shared by two people who suffer from the same illness. Watching my son grow from an infant into a little boy makes me feel magnificent, especially as he overcomes personal obstacles. On the other hand, parenting is frustrating at times. When he is having a meltdown and I cannot reach him, I feel helpless and heartbroken. I realize that every parent must let a child face the trials that life offers, but his exceed the scope of common challenges. As parents know, it is excruciating to watch your child suffer. I simply try my hardest to be the best mom possible to a unique little boy struggling to grow up in todays demanding environment. Terry J. Get Your Garden Tools Ready - 5 Indispensable Tools For Your Garden

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Alan King Gardening is considered as one of the most relaxing and enjoyable leisure activities among all populations unless you are Tarzan or if you dont have a garden but can become awfully wearisome and frustrating if you dont equip yourself with the right kind of basic garden tools. There are just about half a dozen or so essential garden tools that can make all the difference between frustration and pleasure. And these days, with on-line shopping becoming a hot trend, you can pick up good quality products at affordable prices from websites offering great tool deals on garden implements. Some must-have garden tools are: a pair each of pruning shears, lopping shears and hedge shears; a rake; a shovel; a hole digger; and some watering tools like water hose, nozzles, and watering can. Pruning/Lopping/Hedge Shears: Shears, also known as clippers, are essential garden tools that are used for pruning, shaping and removing foliage or branches. A pair of pruning shears is used for light pruning of trees, shrubs and rose plants. For pruning thicker branches, larger shrubs and stocky stems, lopping shears are more suitable as they have longer handles and stronger blades. As the name suggests, hedge shears are used for trimming hedges. They have much longer blades, almost as long as the handles themselves. Shovel and Hole Digger: A good shovel and hole digger can make digging fun. Many designs of shovels are available; go in for a design that serves your purpose and gives you a secure handgrip. Rake: A rake is an indispensable garden tool that is used for gathering fallen leaves, cut grass, branches, hay, etc., as well as for loosening the soil, removing weeds and small stones, and leveling the soil. A big fan-style rake is ideal for removing fallen leaves and cut grass.Garden Hose: A good quality water hose is a must-have if you want to make your gardening experience pleasurable. Choose a water hose that is at least 3 or 4 ply in thickness and has brass fittings. If convenient storage is a factor that is of prime importance to you, go for a coiled type of water hose. This is more expensive than the uncoiled type, but is really convenient to store and transport.Watering Can and Nozzles: Choose a watering can with long nozzles that allows the water to come out gently and reach across long distances. A spray nozzle is good for watering young seedlings. If you buy your garden tools online, you can get really good deals on tools that make your gardening experience a pleasure. If youre buying them offline from a store youre shearing your money Well, its your cash; you decide. Marriage Problems are Nothing New

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

By Terry Ross Marriage problems have become seemingly more and more prolific in recent years partly as a result of a greater acceptance of marital issues being discussed outside the home. A majority of the marriage problems that currently exist have always been an issue but have been kept well hidden from the outside world with many married couples being embarrassed to let people know that they have been unable to make their marriage work. There are an amazing number of people even now who tolerate a less than perfect marriage and ignore common marriage problems rather than being seen as a failure as spouse and parent. What they arent aware of is that if they face up to marriage problems and seek the right professional help a currently intolerant or loveless marriage could be easily turned around. There are very few marriage problems that cant be resolved if tackled in the right way even in many cases what appears insurmountable problems such as infidelity. The most common link in sorting marital issues is the desire to make a marriage work. It doesnt even take both parties to resolve marriage problems and save a marriage. If just one spouse has the vision of what the marriage could really be like the odds of saving a marriage are greatly increased. Many people believe that they are unable to control the situation once a marriage heads off the rails and marriage problems start to take a hold. They believe that if their spouse isnt happy there is nothing they can do to make things right. What if they were to know that they could control the direction their marriage takes just by understanding how to communicate with their partner and how to control any given situation. Marriage problems tend to destroy a marriage because they are ignored and not because they occurred in the first place. Take for example if one partner likes to start an argument. Their spouse has a choice, to react and fuel the argument or to wait until things have calmed down and then tackle the problem. By choosing to react they have allowed the partner who is angry to control the situation and lay the foundations for which route the marriage is likely to take. For those who are prepared to learn and are willing to apply a little effort into resolving marriage problems the rewards can be immense. Learning how to control situations and how and when to discuss marriage problems with your spouse can be what stops divorce and gets your marriage back on the right track with the resulting relationship being far better and far more rewarding than it ever was before.
